Research Summary
Our work focuses on fundamental dewetting behavior of nanoscale polymeric semiconducting materials, where van der Waals forces create interfacial energy "mismatch" and destabilize these interfaces. These interfaces are critical to the development of organic and plastic electronics. Other work in our group includes measuring chemical properties of functionalized nanoparticles, and comparing these to predictions of molecular models and simulations. In addition, we have prepared a novel functionalized silicate and demonstrated its incorporation into polu(urethane) nanocomposites, resulting in profound changes in strength with only 1% particle.
